Yellowstone–Day 2

We set out today to visit Norris Geezer Basin and Canyon Village.  The day was overcast and rainy, but we still managed to have a great adventure.  As we were heading towards Norris Basin, we came across Gibbon Falls.  We got out of the car to get a better view!

We ended up driving through Norris Basin, but decided not to get out because the rain was starting to come down and we didn’t have an extra set of clothes.   So we moved on to the Canyon Village to see the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and the lower and upper falls.  The rain slowed to a drizzle when we made it to the lower falls.

We took a hike down the side of the hill to get to the lower falls.  Steve and Christopher took the stairs all the way down to get a super close view.  We didn’t think we could safely do it with Ian, so Ian and I headed back up towards the car.  Along our way we say two elk, so all was not lost!  After lunch in the Canyon Village, we headed to see the upper falls.  Again, Ian and stayed up on top while they hiked to get a closer look.

We then headed north to see Tower Fall.  The sun came out for a bit and it was just stunning.

As we were walking to see Tower Fall, we saw everyone pointing to the hill in the distance and we were able to see a bear crossing over the hill.

We drove our way around the park and went towards Mammoth Hot Springs.  As we did this, we got stuck in traffic and realized everyone was looking at a momma bear and her two cubs.  We were lucky and were pretty close as we drove through.

It was getting late in the day, when we reached Mammoth Hot Springs.  They had a drive through area, so that is what we did.  Mammoth was interesting because it was an actual town for the employees of Yellowstone.  There was a neighborhood, a church, playground and a few stores.

On the way out of the park, we came across some elk grazing.
