Ian James, I can’t believe you are 5 months old. It seems like the months have just flown by. You change and grow each day. This past month you seem so much older and you want to do more on your own. You have definite ideas about how things should be done. You do not want anyone to hold you laying down, you love to be sitting up vertical! This can prove problematic when you are eating as you want to try sitting up right while you drink your bottle. Eating in itself has become a long drawn out affair the last few weeks. You are more interested in everything going on in the room than you are in eating. At school, you are eating 7 ounces, at home we can barely get you to drink 6 ounces. As long as you are rash free, we will be starting solids next month. Until then it will be only formula!
Sleeping is a work in progress. Early in the month we had a nice routine going on and then you got sick and the holidays hit. I was putting you to bed by 8 each night and you would go down easy. You would wake up anywhere between 9:30 and 10:30. Your dad would go in, turn you on your tummy and pat your back until you fell back to sleep. You would then sleep through the night. We are back to working on sleeping and your doctor feels like you might need a small bottle to make it through the night. So the past two weeks, we have been doing that and it seems to help. Now that the holidays are over and your cough is gone, you are back to going to bed easily. You wake between 1:30-3:00 and I give you a few ounces which lets you sleep until 7 or 8.
We are waiting for you to roll over. You get to your side, but can’t quite get yourself fully turned over. You did however, roll one night in bed. So we know that you are capable of doing the skill. You like to stand with us supporting you. Everything within in your reach goes in your mouth. You like to try and grab my cup when I am drinking and will put it to your mouth. It is too cute! This is why a plastic cup has become your new favorite toy.
Your teachers tell us that you love to be talked to all day long. It’s true, you like to be the center of attention. You don’t like being left for long without someone talking to you! You love to have me make different sounds. When I am changing your diaper, I will say different letter sounds and you find it so funny! It always gets you laughing.
Ian, you are a generally happy little man. You light up our lives with your sweet little giggle!
