This past week, Christopher traveled to Red River, New Mexico with his Uncle Shane, Aunt Lisa and his cousins Grace and Ethan. Steve and I got daily updates with pictures. Thanks to Facebook, I was also able to keep tabs on him! It looks like they had a great time! We really appreciate Shane and Lisa including Christopher on their family vacation.
Here are the updates we received:
Sunday after church, they drove to Amarillo and spent a night at a church there. They were able to enjoy the activity room with lots of different gaming systems, pool tables and a foosball table.
On Monday they made it to the condo in Red River. Here are some of the pictures we were sent:
Tuesday they went mountain tubing in the morning. According to Shane “the kids had a blast!”
Wednesday they rented a Jeep Wrangler for the whole day and drove the very rugged roads up to Goose Lake and Greenie Peak (highest peak accessible by off-road vehicles in New Mexico, 12000+ feet). They got to enter a small cave and old Indain/Spanish gold mine. They also drove through a river on the trail.
According to Shane “They only had one scary moment. Some idiot moved the direction sign near the top of Greenie Peak sending us back down the mountain on a very steep and rugged trail. God took care of us as we carefully inched our way down the trail. I was scared but the kids thought it was fun.”
Thursday was filled with riding the new main Red River ski lift to the top of the mountain and back. They also ventured to Taos to eat New Mexican food at Antonio's and see the Rio Grande gorge and bridge. It is around 900 feet from the bridge to the Rio Grande river below. Grace and Christopher had no problem walking across the bridge.
On Friday they fished for trout at the city ponds, but didn't catch anything. In the evening, Grace and Christopher went souvenir shopping and then to a teen party at the community center.
Saturday they left Red River and headed to Carlsbad. Sunday they visited the caverns and on Monday they will be heading home!
