A few weeks ago, Christopher decided he wanted to be in band. The instrument drive was this past Thursday. I ended up taking him and it turned out to be a tryout of sorts. He went in wanting to play either the drums or the saxophone. As we entered the room, we were given a piece of paper with the instruments listed and either a yes or no. We sat and waited our turn with one of the band directors. We started with the drum man. He had Christopher try all these different beats and counting techniques. To someone with no musical inclination, it seemed difficult. Well, the man circled no...heartbreaking. With the next director, we tried the saxophone and the clarinet. Christopher was getting nervous, because it was difficult. But the man was kind and took his time. He was finally able to get the instrument to work - relief on my part! I was starting to worry that he was going to get a no for the saxophone too. Oh that would have been horrible. As it turns out, the saxophone is a lottery instrument. So we have to wait until Monday to find out the results.
On a side note we did have a long talk with him about the commitment of playing an instrument. He thought about it all weekend and has decided not to go through with band. So here is the only instrument of C with the saxophone.
